Archers from Royston Heath put in an accomplished performance in our final home match in this year’s Hertfordshire Summer League. It was a warm Sunday with only a light breeze drifting over the Heath. Almost perfect conditions for shooting, which helped two new club records to be shot during the event. One for ladies recurve and one for ladies longbow. Our visitors on this occasion were Stortford Archery Club. After a close fixture last year where Royston won by four points., everyone was expecting a tight affair. After all the scores were counted and verified, Royston’s Recurve team were declared the winners by 234 points, scoring 2681 against Stortford’s 2447. After a difficult start, this was our first victory in the HAA league this season. Archers competing for Royston were Jack Corps (590), Michael Wright (568), Deborah Martin (530), Jamie Cattrell (497) and Martin Arber (496). Stortford’s team was Simon Bennett (561), Peter Sweetman (544) Kevin Hill (528), Paul Manthorpe (423) and Rob Jones (391). Royston’s Junior team were also successful winning their first match of the season 420 – 0. Our compound team also competed, scoring a total of 1189. However as fixtures in this division are postal, the final result is not currently known. Thank you to everyone who turned up and congratulations to those who shot personal bests and club records at the shoot. Our final league match of the year takes place on the 10th of September away to Elswood Bowmen.
