Abbey Wand 2017

On Remembrance Sunday four archers from Royston Heath visited the Abbey Wand Shoot. Archers shoot at a 6inch wide post 140yards away. Arrows hitting on the post score 5, and arrows landing within a 5ft diameter circle around the post score one. This year was a rather chilly and windy affair, however the cake provided during the shoot was as good as ever. With a Royston archer winning the gents Recurve event for the last three years the pressure was on to give a good showing. Unfortunately it was not to be four in a row, however, Paul finished second on 43 points – a score that would have won any of the previous 8 wand competitions. The standard was certainly very high this year and it once again proved to be a fun alternative to target archery.
